In autumn 2008, Robert Harvey, the Mayor of Waitakere, was invited to join the Executive Conference of Mayors for Peace. During a visit in February 2009 by Mr. Luc Dehaene (Mayor of Ypres, Belgium and Chair of the Board of Directors), a meeting was arranged with Mayor Mr. Robert Harvey and Alyn Ware (Global Coordinator PNND).

Six new members joined in 2008, in Australia, where Mayors for Peace has continued to grow and network informally. The Victorian Local Governance Association, the City of Yarra and the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons have been working together to stimulate new memberships and activities with members.
