Heidrun Konrad
As the President of Soroptimist International of Europe, Heidrun Konrad’s theme was “Women Building Peace”. In this capacity, alongside her team, she started the Peace Marathon in Kigali/Rwanda in 2005, 11 years after the genocide; this year the 6th Marathon will take place. She also organised a campaign of “Dolls for Peace” where more than one thousands dolls were produced by artists and volunteers as a token of friendship highlighting the topic of peace. Heidrun designed a Peace Charter of Soroptimist International of Europe which was signed by around 2,000 citizens, six Nobel Prize winners such as Shirin Ebadi and famous personalities including Prince Albert of Monaco. At the end of her term she organised a Peace Congress at the Hofburg in Vienna attended by more than 1,400 persons; at the opening speeches were given by the President of the Austrian Federal Republic Dr. Heinz Fischer, Benita Ferrero Waldner and two Ministers.
