Ypres, September 7th 2011 - We are very happy to announce that the Mayors for Peace 2020 Vision Campaign Association has appointed Mr. Benedict Winnubst as and Mr. Bert Sweerts as 2020 Vision Campaigners in the Netherlands, Ms Micaela Mezzadra as a 2020 Vision Campaigner in Argentina and Ms Bibiana Ángel González as a 2020 Vision Campaigner in Colombia and Argentina.
Mayors for Peace lament the sudden loss of Mr. Kafui Attipoe, Campaigner in Ghana on June 30th, 2011. Mr. Kafui Attipoe, who worked devotedly for Mayors for Peace as a 2020 Vision Campaigner, passed away after a sudden illness on June 30. He helped us tremendously by expanding our activities in Ghana and recruiting many mayors to join our conference. Among the 33 member cities in Ghana, he has directly introduced 24 cities to Mayors for Peace. Mayor Adams Nuhu of Awutu Senya in Ghana issued a message of condolence and assured that they would continue to support 2020 Vision Campaign to accomplish his deepest wishes. On behalf of Mayors for Peace, President Matsui sent a message of condolences on August 1.
The past year the association has appointed a total of twenty-three 2020 Vision Campaigners around the world: Argentina (2); Austria (1); Brazil (1); Colombia (1); Germany (2); Greece (1); Haiti (1); Italy (1); Iran (1); Mexico (1); Netherlands (2); Norway (2); Peru (1); Senegal (1); Sweden (1); Turkey (1); UK (2) and USA (1).
The main responsibilities of the 2020 Vision Campaigners is the promotion of the 2020 Vision Campaign in their respective countries, carrying out activities to establish and enhance the cooperation with the mayors so that these countries can become more and more deeply involved in international efforts to protect cities from the scourge of war, most notably nuclear war.
