Buenos Aires, September 21st 2011 - Julio Pereyra, Mayor of Florencio Varela & President of FAM (Federation of Argentinian Municipalities) has joined the leadership of Mayors for Peace. FAM is instrumental to increase our presence and activities in Argentina.
Mayors for Peace participated the past couple of days in a Latin American conference organized by FAM and FLACMA on citizens security issues in Buenos Aires. During the conference 8 Mayors joined Mayors for Peace.
Mayors for Peace also signed an agreement of cooperation with IC-Argentina, a private consulting firm for local governments, which is committed to continue to support the objectives of Mayors for Peace in Latin America.
Julio Pereyra designated Juan Matteo, the Executive Director of FAM, to implement actions to develop Mayors for Peace with the Argentinian Federation of Municipalities. Julio Pereyra is also president of FLACMA, the Latin American Federation of Cities, Municipalities and Associations of Local Governments.
During the security conference Mayors for Peace was offered an important space, including an information table thanks to the generous support of IC-Argentina. The information table of Mayors for Peace attracted a lot of interest and exchanges with the approx. 500 participants and 3 Argentinian, 2 Colombian and 3 Mayors from Ecuador joined Mayors for Peace.
IC-Argentina also sponsored the participation of Pol Heanna, the International Development Director, as well as Micaela Mezzadra and Bibiana Gonzalez, the newly appointed Mayors for Peace 2020 Vision Campaigners for Argentina and Colombia.
