The vitality of the 2020 Vision Campaign stems from the interaction of mayors and civil society activists. Without support and encouragement from citizens a mayor may be inclined to leave "national security" matters up to the national government. The authority of the citizen activist or organization rest upon his/her or its reputation; a mayor can speak with authority on behalf of the entire community. Collectively mayors can represent a substantial portion, even a majority, of a nation's people.
So why not become a member today!
Becoming a member
- Membership of Mayors for Peace is for Mayors, city councils and local authorities.
- Any city that formally declares support for our programme to promote the total abolition of nuclear weapons can join Mayors for Peace.
- Membership of Mayors for Peace involves no annual dues or any other financial obligation, though financial contribution is much appreciated and well-needed.
- Once a city joins our organisation, its membership continues indefinitely, regardless of changes of political administration, unless that city makes a specific request to leave.
