La Asociación Internacional de Ciudades Mensajeras de la Paz fue fundada en 1988 en Verdun (Francia) para reconocer e impulsar el rol y la responsabilidad que las ciudades pueden desempeñar creando una cultura de paz. The Nuclear Free Local Authorities (NFLAs) was set up in 1980 at the height of the Cold War.
