Mayors for Peace now counts 2,125 members which means there are 97 new members since last month January 28th. An average of 3 new cities joined every single day, which brings us well up to speed to reach the goal of one average city a day for the 2008 - 2010 preparations for the Decisive Decade on Nuclear Disarmament. This is very positive and empowering news for all of us and we hope that more people will get involved with the 2020 Vision Campaign of the Mayors for Peace today. An amazing number of 68 new Japanese cities joined the network since Hiroshima and Nagasaki decided last month to open up membership to their Japanese colleagues. Other new members come from Belgium (3), Canada (4), Croatia (1), Czech Republic (5), Denmark (1), Equador (1), France (7), Italy (2), Netherlands (3), Spain (1), and USA (1).
Congratulations to the Japanese team making this happen. In Japan Mayors for Peace has been co-operating the past 25 years towards the total elimination of nuclear weapons with the Nuclear Free Local Authorities which counts 230 Japanese cities.
