New Partnership urges Mayors to be Friends of Live Earth

June 5, 2007
The Live Earth July 7, 2007, 24-hour global event with nine concerts on seven continents aims to heighten awareness of the global climate crisis. This series of concerts will encourage communities at the local level to take action as part of global solutions to the climate crisis.
Mayors for Peace is proud to team up with Live Earth, ICLEI, The Climate Group, and the Sierra Club on a joint letter to mayors in which we urge them to involving their cities in a 'Friends of the Live Earth' event. During the event they can display on a large screen the 24-hour live broadcast of the Live Earth Concert experience as well as providing a stage for local musicians. The event is an opportunity for mayors and community leaders to educate their citizens on actions to take to have an impact on the climate crisis, and to raise awareness of the possibility of nuclear winter, as President Tadatoshi Akiba explained to the Mayors for Peace membership in his cover letter sent out with the joint letter.
