107 cities step up financial support with Kutina, Manchester, Lohfelden and Whistler as latest supporters
November 25, 2008
LATEST - Today we received some very welcome news from the Croatian city of Kutina - on the 14th of OCtober last, Kutina City Council passed a resolution to show concrete support of the 2020 Vision Campaign by committing to a contribution of €625 every year up to and inlcuding 2020. This contribution matches the suggested rate of €0.025 per inhabitant and demonstrates the kind of long-term vision we need to achieve our goal in 2020.
We now count financial contributions from 107 cities towards the elimination of nuclear weapons by 2020.
Last week the Cities of Lohfelden (Germany) and Whistler (Canada) also informed us that their City Councils had decided to give financial support to the 2020 Vision Campaign.
With GB£8,700 the City of Manchester is today the largest contributor, with the exception of course of the Cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki who reaffirmed this week their commitment to continue to contribute on average 250,000 Euro annually towards the 2020 Vision Campaign.

Most cities contribute 0,025€/inhabitant/year and this often all the way till 2020. Although the campaign is making real progress since the launch of the "Hiroshima - Nagasaki Protocol", it is disturbing to note that over 2.000 member cities have not yet done their part towards matching the financial contributions of the Cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. So, please help and table a resolution in your City Council as soon as possible. You can find a draft in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish.
We'll soon update this table where you'll be able to see commitments all the way up to the year 2020.
